The late model Marauder was an interesting experiment. It was decently powerful, even if it wasn't the quickest thing on the road. It may have just come along at the wrong time. I think initially, when it was announced, prices were expected to be a little less than they ended up being. Of course they ended up with a big rebate and local dealers had a really great deal on them at one time. I think if they made a two-door version of the CV and GM, the Marauder would have really found a market. Of course, having a two-door version would not make much sense for anything other than the Marauder or Galaxy or Fairlane under the Ford name.

I agree that the Marauder was speedy, but there is nothing really special or spectacular about them, especially nothing to justify the huge price tag. I work at a dealership and we have had a Marauder on the lot since they came out. Nobody wants them. Especially if they could get a Mustang. A fully loaded Mustang v8 is less than a Marauder. And the Marauder is a few years old. But if any one is interested we have a mint condition one just waiting for a new owner.

The Marauder was a big let down. I am or was until recently a member of a group owning mid 90s Impala SS's. Some of us were looking forward to the Maraudeer as a replacement for our aging vehicles. When it finally came out it was not the vehicle hinted at and the paper specs didn't match up with street performance.
The marauder had more HP than the SS, yet the SS's walked away from them. The SS was faster in the quarter mile and 0 to 60. The SS also had a much higher top end, especially since the Marauder had a speed limiter at 125mph or so. I never did figure out where the Marauder was supposed to be faster. You would think they would have the edge on the freeway what with 40 more horses, but nope the SS still won. Must have been too little torque and or too low number gearing.
One car mag review basically said it was a tarted up grandpa sedan wanna be a bad boy sedan.
During the years after the Marauder came out I never saw any postings on the SS site where Marauders were any threat to the SS performance. Most of us moved on to other rear wheel drive high hp cars and did not give the Marauder a second look.
I personally just made the move last week, thanks to some puke who totalled my SS. So now I drive an 04 Lincoln LS. Very nice car but not as comfortable as my old SS. But it is faster and nicer in cushy ways.
Just my opinion,

I was a bit disappointed in the new Marauder, I didn't feel that they really stayed true to the Marauder name. For one thing, I believe all previous Marauders were 2-doors, and to make the new one a 2-door as well would have sexied it up quite a bit, as well as to make it a lot more distinguishable from the Crown Vic/Gran Marquis. I still wouldn't kick one out of my garage for leaking oil, though! -TD
