I noticed in the sunlight the other day that my side mirrors are scratched, rather badly, I think it was from the gas station earlier that day when I used the window squeegy (sp?) on the mirrors to clean them. Never thought that would scratch the mirrors, but anyway, I guess my question is, is there anything out there that can be done at home to reduce or remove the scratches short of replacing the mirror itself?
Another question, my Bright Tubular Step bars that came with my truck from the factory have scratched all up from where you get in and out of the truck already, only took about a week actually for them to look bad. I have had step bars in the past and did not have this problem. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it defective bars that I should point out to my dealer, or is this just to be expected with these Ford Step bars?
piercide, I have same issues/concerns/questions.Only my mirror scratch is on my Explorer.I am curious about step bar scratches?I wonder if Ford will replace them?
Ruckus, I mentioned the step bars to the dealer, and they are going to look at them on Friday and see if the scratches are excessive. He said it seems to be a complaint from people on those, but they might be able to do something about it. I will post an update on Monday.
If they are light surface scratches you can use meguir's Scratch X. It won't actually remove the scratches but it will make them signifigantly less visable. You'll have to do it every other wash to keep it up.
I've tried a bunch of different things trying to get some scratches out of my wife windshield and have never found anything that works. Some have made it better some have made it worse. Nothing has removed them.
You might want to ask the dealership Body Shop Mgr. to help with the scratched mirror. If he is a nice guy he will help you out, especially if your truck was recently purchased. However, I think it would be nice to have a glass scratch remover kit at home.I need one for my Explorer.I have learned the hard way to be careful when using the gas station squeegy.I don't want to scatch my new truck.Good Luck!
I think the mirrors are plastic? I put wide angle mirrors over mine. One went bad. I used a razor blade to scrape the adhesive off. It scratched up the mirror real bad. I have never seen "glass" scratch that easy. If in fact it is glass that is.
The service people basically told me that I would be able to replace the step bars for the scratches if I wanted, but he recommended to me that I wait until my warranty is close to the end or that I can't stand the scratches anymore and then make another complaint. He said this because basically the new set will just end up scratching right away again. Haven't decided what I will do on it yet.
As for the rest, thanks for the replies. I actually just decided to order new mirrors and have the dealer replace, they were only about 15 bucks a piece, and they are going to install them for me.
