'90 3.0 No overdrive
In the time that I've owned my '90 3.0 overdrive has never worked. The other 3 gears shift normally but the revs just stay high on the freeway. My parents owned the van before me and it used to go in and out of OD frequently while driving down the freeway. The transmission is a rebuilt unit that is only about 2 years old. I have replaced the TPS to no avail and I believe that it is some kind of electrical problem as opposed to the tranny itself. What sensors or relays control the overdrive function? Can they be replaced without removal of the transmission? Thanks alot, I am very tired of crappy gas mileage due to the high revs.

Bought one on E-Bay doing the same thing.
Bought a 1994 AWD extended on E-Bay on 3/19/2005. This van has an electronic dash. After a while the van would drop down into 3rd, the engine revs would go up, and the speedo and odometer would not register speed or mileage. The dash would indicate 0 mph and the odometer stopped incrementing. This was sporadic. After stopping the van the tranny would go into overdrive. On the 370 mile trip home, about 100 miles was in 3rd gear. This knocked about 5mpg off the mileage. Any ideas how to correct problem?
