What do you guys think? Spend 2000.00 getting my 410 FE to have 15-16 MPG or spend at least that much getting a 5.0L in my truck. Thinking of putting Gear Vendors overdrive in my 410 or having the 302 with AOD. What are your opinions.
Put an AOD behind the 410 with an adpter. Google transmissionadapters, that should put you on the right path.
What tranny and rear ratio are you running now? I get very close to that with my FE, C6, & 3.00. I still have one more carb to try. I am working on a 390 cfm 4 barrel to try next.
I'm currently running a C6 with 3.55, I think, rear gears. Something close to 3.50 anyway. My biggest problem right now is the 750 cfm carb. Hope to replace it this summer.
The carb size if a double pumper style can affect your fuel mileage, but I would bet the carbs you are refering to are of the vacuum secondary style. If so a 750 cfm will net the same mileage as a 500 or 600 cfm IF DRIVEN THE SAME WAY.
matt, you would benefit more from a rear gear change close to what John has than changing the carburetor size. Lentech Automatics has an FE compatible AOD.
Dan-if you use any type of vacuum(Holley), spring loaded air valve(Carter AVS and new Edelbrock Thunder), or counter-weighted air valves(Carter AFB and Edelbrock's) the engine will only draw as much fuel and air as it needs. The only time it would use more fuel with the 750 versus the 500-600 unit is at WOT and high RPM use. If you have a stock to near stock engine the 750 is more than you need, but it will have a minute affect on fuel mileage.
