My sister has a 97 escort that is misfiring on number 3 cylinder. They have changed the plugs ans wires and it still happens.
I suspect that the ignition module pack has a bad number three module. They are 3 hours away from me and for next weekend want to make a trip down for a visit. They do not trust the local garages where they are in the sticks. they have been burned by these shops up their way too many times.
So if it is this pack, where is it located on the engine and how easy is it to change. I'm not near the car, but it is a 4 cyl. Displacement is unknown to me.
If it is not the module can anyone shed some light on what else can cause the continous misfirings.
Are you sure that it's an ignition problem and maybe not a bad injector or the wiring/etc to that injector? Just some food for thought and maybe something to add to your box of parts before making the trip. Return it if you don't need it. A code scanner would be real nice to. Often you can borrow a scanner if you leave a deposit (Schucks Auto Supply). I'd bring a multimeter to check the injector for continuity as well as look for voltage to the injector; yeah, it will be a pulse but the meter should show the presence of voltage at the injector. Also, if you suspect a bad injector remember that you can swap it with another one on the engine. If the miss follows the injector, you have confirmed the problem. Ideally, you would do a tad of research on the coil pack and FI setup before going there. Maybe a visit to the autozone.com website to see if they have any test proceedures is in order. Hope this helps.

Ok That is good to know about the injector being faulty. I will pass this on to my sister and her husband could do that test.
But still I would like to know where the modules are and are they easy to get at. This is if the problem still occurs?
Thanks for the info about the injectors it will help start in helping for a remedy.
