I have a 69 f100 2wd, and, am quite frankly disappointed with its performance in snowy conditions....Since we got nearly 20" of snow here this weekend, i am convinced i want to find the transfer case, and front and rear end....the 360 i have is in wonderful condition, but its backed by a three speed, and would more than likely put a 4 spd in it if i went 4wd....
what im asking i guess, is if anyone knows where i can find a donor pickup sitting that is reasonably cheap, but yet in good condition...
Darrell, I would look for a 78-79 donor, and move your sheet metal over to the newer chassis. The 78-79 is supposed to have the better steering set up.
In the short run, put about 500 lbs of weight in the bed and you will be surprized how much better it'll get around. My brother has a must go job at the power plant. He keeps a snow load that he can backup to and quickly load his truck. He has been sucessfully doing this for years.
Me, I am a candy butt and stay off the snow covered roads.
While I like the 2wd Trucks...I consider those "cruisers".....Here in Colorado the 4x4 is the way to go! They are so high and tough, almost nothing can stop them....I take it by your name that you are somewhere in the "great lakes" area......not a good place to look for a "rust free" truck....there are alot out here in Colorado and southern Wyoming....so if you see something on Ebay, I'd be glad to be your "local eyes" for it, if need be. I'm self employed, so I usually have time for a side project or two. Let me know if I can help!
oh, dont worry....thats the first thing i did as soon as i got it suck the first time....took the tractor and loaded the back end up with a bucket full of wet, heavy snow.....works better...but you cant go muddin whether theres weight in the back or not......not the same effect...

p.s.---im actually from southern MN, the name is from something totally different, but ill keep my eyes open around here, and appreciate the offer

I picked a couple parts from a '67 F100 4x4 just yesterday. The body was worked pretty badly, but the frame was strait and all the driveline was there. 390-C6 auto setup. Probably won't be around much longer, but would make for a good donor running chassis. It's in Denver, BTW.

Craig, too bad it isnt a little closer or i probably would have hit you up for the phone number by now...im up in MN, so its not that easy for me to just "go pick up"....thanks for the info, though..
Darrell
I'm thinking seriously about going back and getting the whole truck (or at least what's left). Nothing else on it that I can use, but it seems a shame to see it go to the crusher!
