Trailer Brake Setup

One of my friends told me that my Ford was already wired for trailer brakes for towing a trailer. He told me to look for a blue wire taped up under my dash? Anyone heard of this and if so, where in the "wire jungle" can I find it. It is for my truck listed below and came with a OE ford "RV" wiring plug on the bumper. Just need to find the blue wire I will need to hook up to the brake controller

Thanks.

It should be right up under the dash, kind of on the left center. Mine was not buried or hidden. It was pretty much out in the open. On my truck it was very easy to find, I even think it had a connector already. I forget if it was blue, but knowing almost nothing about the truck and just reading the brake controller instructions, it was very easy to find and do.

I think the tip off was that the Ford Connector under the tail is "proof" that all the wires are already there. I did not need to add any wires.

I will try to remeber to take a look when I get home and post it if I don't see that someone else told you.

OK, took a look under the dash of my 94F250 factory wired for towing.

I am surprised you have not found it, mine is almost too obvious. However thinking back 4 years ago when I did this I vaguely recall that the wire was in a wire bundle in a connector that was just hanging under the dash.

The blue wire is taped up in a bundle that includes a Green, Red and Yellow wires. On the end that I connected to my controller, I think I lopped off the connector and wired them up as the instructions said. All works fine.

This bundle of wires is wrapped with electrical tape(factory job) and it is tied with a tie wrap(I think I did that) to a thicker bundle of wires but does not join it. The small bundle goes to a grey rectangular connector with I think 6 pins(at least one hole is empty) that mates to a grey connector that is factory mounted to a stub that is right under the ashtray and a little on the left side. It is not buried way back, it is right up front and quite visible.

I don't know if yours is like this but mine was very easy to find. The only problem I had was that the wire colors of the bundle didn't match the wires in my controller so I did have to make sure what signal did what.

Hope this helps,

Jim Henderson

Jim,

Thanks for the directions. I looked again yesterday and did not see anything. Now I know where to look at and I will find it tonight.

Once again, thanks!
