I am looking to have a spray-in liner installed. Some of you suggest its a benefit to have the bed-bolts removed along with the access panel to the tailgate. Common sense tells me that leaving the assembly in would create a permanent seal against moisture. What am I missing? Your replies are appreciated.
I share your opinion. The only drawback is if someday you might have to remove the bed and you might have to remove the liner material at the bolt heads. Also I would make sure that the water drains in the front of the bed do not get painted shut.
LEAVE THE BOLTS AND PANELS IN. Its nothing to run a die grinder over the top to knock it down and take a good razor around the panel if you need too. I did it that way and had NO problems. And your right, thats the only way to ensure a seal.
I agree with leaving the panels in... but... playing devils advocate... I had my front bed bolts come loose.. after the liner was sprayed in. I had to cut the lining around the bolts to take them out because they spun when trying to tighten them and nothing I tried would keep them from turning. Now I don't have a seal on the bed, and after having to fix my tailgate latch assy I don't have a seal there either, although I doubt that it will cause problems in the long run! and like Kwik said... don't close off the drain openings! Your choice either way... but make sure the bed bolts are tight prior to having them spray it in if you go that route!
I had Line-X do mine and it is great! They pulled the tail gate access panel and coated it seperately then reinstalled it with the bolts uncoated. They sprayed over the bed bolts on the 95 F250 because they are carriage style with no head. They said if they were a Torx or allen head style like a Ranger they would pull them first. The warranty also covers retouch work if you need it in the future. I was very impressed!
Had everthing sprayed in mine. No problem draining. Like bobcatv8 said make sure that the waranty covers touch up and youy can't go wrong if you have to access the bolts or the panel.
I have the line x also. They opened up the front drain holes a bit, sprayed over the bed bolts, but did the tailgate panel separetly. I don't think the verticle surface of the tailgate will give you moisture problems as long as you keep the drainage holes clear. I did have a problem hauling some railroad ties that had a hidden nail and cut the line x down to the bed. wonder if that is covered under warr.? I haven't had time to take it back yet.
