There has been much discussion as to weather or not this scanner will work with the PSD, I guess I'm going to find out.
There is a family in town that I have been doing all the maintenance on their vehicles for a few years, and this morning they dropped by out of the blue and gave me a new ez-read 2000. I thought that was pretty cool.
Anyways, I'm reading the operations manual now, and I'll go plug the truck in later and see what's what.
I noticed in the operating instructions that it does say:
"NOTE: An OBD-II manufacturer specific connector may be necessary to work with some vehicles. In some cases the vehicle manufacturer used a 16pin OBD-II connector in vehicles using an OBD-I protocol. A small percentage of vehicles in 94/95 manufactured bt GM and Ford may use this configuration."
So those of you that have this scanner and it hasn't worked correctly might just need a new interface cable.....just a thought.
I've got an EZ Read 2000 and I tried it on my 2000 F-250 7.3 and alot of things were not supported and it would tell me "Not all scan data available". When you hit the data key it would send you back to the scan function. I think for a diesel you may need an AutoXray scanner.
It is an AutoXRay scanner. I didn't get any sort of error messages like that. It didn't pull any codes, but I put new batteries in the truck last week, so the system was cleared at that time. I ended up having to run some errands so I didn't get a chance to unplug anything to force some codes to see if it would read them, but so far so good.
I have tried it on my 02 f-350 many times, I it will not read p codes, It will give you some operation data, basically only map sensor readings and rpm and mph. It does not have the ability to do self tests that other top notch scanners offer. A snap on is really needed to do what you need or a genesis sold at oriellys works really well also.(and its a lot cheaper than a snap on)
If you get it to work let me know how, I have tried obdII and obd I and manufacturer specific cables with no luck. I looked on their web site and it even said it did not support this model of truck.
The EZ Read 2000 is one of Autoxray's code readers, the other is EZ Read 1000. Their scanners are EZ Scan 3000, 4000, 5000, and 6000 with the 5000 and 6000 doing both OBD I and OBD II. This is why I am thinking EZ Read 2000 won't work with the diesel and the EZ scan 6000 with the enhanced Ford program will work.
