This is a good post....I have looked high and low for my emblems...no go...I firmly believe that the part number is for the assembly of the bezel and red insert....I havent found any 65 4X4 let alone c/s ones....
Yes, the inserts are part of the emblem. THe only emblems Ford ever made separate was on wheel covers.(1131 emblems) And that was only for various different times.
you can modify the 65 fender bezel to accept the 4x4 or CS inserts. Yes its not factory correct, but if you are not doing a points resto it dont matter.
All the inserts out there are aftermarket repops.
The question is do you reayy have 65 bezels or 66 bezels as each have the same similar shape, but not the wording in the same place.
Dont let the emblem cops catch you out there with a set of DC repop 66 bezels and insert on a 65 LOL
emblems are in VG condition other than the sun has bleached out the red plastic that says four wheel drive you can get replacement plastic from Dennis Carpenter thanx Phatz

Just a note on IDing the different year side emblems....the 65 ones say FORD 100 or 250/350 depending on application across the top , bottom is 'blank', The 66 ones used same wording, but they said FORD on top on all, and along the bottom they widened the area a bit for the model designation....100,250,350, etc. The plastic inserts themselves for both years are the same....Ranger,C/S,Twin I Beam,Four Wheel Drive. The 64 and earlier 1/2,3/4 and 1 tons used same emblem across the board with the plastic insert being the difference....these were on rear sides of the hood....as I recall seeing on a sweet 67, these were on the cowling on the Merc trucks....same insert and what appears the same chrome bezel too...hard to tell going 65-70 mph on the freeway...I think that the earlier type bezels were also used on heavy trucks too...up to the 700-750 or so.
Details, details, details....anyone given anymore thought to a book on our beloved 61-6 beasts......
