Just noticed that my light switch no longer has any illumination when driving at night. Also was wondering whether the wiper switch and ashtray are supposed to be backlighted? Are all these three possibly related? The owners manual doesn't show squat as far as what fuses relate to illumination and there are lots of em. Would like to fix it myself and avoid the "stealership" if possible. Would appreciate any input on others who might know a common fix and how to do it. Also are the bulbs a deale item only or can pick them up at any auto parts store?
I found that the problem with the light switch illumination was the bulb was burned out. Using the Haynes manual I had to do a bit of dissasembly to get to it. The bulb is mounted to a removable plastic socket that is flush mounted on the back of the light switch .The bulb/socket is sold only at the dealer for $1.80 and has to be special ordered. I checked local car parts stores and they don't carry it.
Wait a minute !!!! You found the light for the headlight switch ?!?!? I searched EVERYWHERE for the light for my 03 Ranger. All the Ford & Mazda dealers told me the bulb was not available by itself. I would've had to spend $40 for he entire switch just to get the bulb. I'm waiting for warmer weather so I can just put an LED in there instead, and not have to worry about it again.
