Ok heres the deal.I purchased 2 trucks a 1979 F150 and a 1973,both sight unseen and 250 miles from where I live so just going by photos here.Am told by seller that the 73 F100 has a 351w,but sure looks like a 360 or 390 to me in the photo I received after buying them. Not a bad deal though as I got both trucks and a slide in 12 ft truck camper all for $200.00.Am trying to add a photo to this thread but may not be successful so if it does not appear please email me and I will send you a pic, would like your thoughts as to it's correct size.Thanks.
Get the I.D. number off the intake manifold if its the factory one or pull the pan and get the numbers off the crank to ID the motor. The 360 and 390 had five valve cover bolts that will tell u its an FE.The 351W has six valve cover bolts and the thermostat housing goes horizontally into the intake.
I know alot of folks get ripped off when they buy one of these old trucks guy will say its gotta 390 in it but its really got a 360.
Same thing happened to me when I bought my 78 F-150 guy told me it had a 400 in it and then when I tore down the motor to rebuild it called up my local ford dealership and had them run the numbers off the crank came back as a 351M.
I wuz a little angry and dissapointed.
