Heres the deal. My good friend/co-worker has a 90 Dodge 350 with a Cummins. Flat bed, airbags, 4x4, 33" tires not real MUD tires, but perty deep tread (cant remember the brand offhand). He thinks because he just bought those big ol tires ($400), has a Dodge diesel he has the better, more capable offroad rig. I dont think so. He has never truely gotten it dirty offroad. Maybe drove through a field once, but nothing real nasty/fun. I know what I can do with mine, know how it handles offroad and have a fair amount of experience and knowledge(thanks to you guys!!!). My question is, who has the more capable offroad vehicle?? I know there are many different types of offroading, Im talking about overall. Heres the comparison
-Ford F150
-5.0 302
-High flow exhaust (more than stock )
-31" Workhorse Extra Grip
-2" suspension lift
-I know my truck will perform well (sorry, couldnt help it)
I'm not trying to be cocky saying I think mines better. I havent gone extreme offroad at all, not even close. I've been on some hairy trails and deep muck(1-2 feet). I am by no means an expert at this "sport" what so ever, not trying to sound like it either. Just would like an honest opinion.
I love these games. WHO CARES! lol. He has a heavier duty driveline, but isnt really using it. depens on who's longer, and more clearance. and the given situation.
Well, he was at it today again. "yer jelous cause I got bigger tires", typical male macho stuff we do. So I called him on his bluff, he said "lets go muddin today!!". Ok, lets go, right now. For some reason, he couldnt go today, something came up. yea. He does have the clearance advantage on me, its my 31's vs his 33's. Be it only by a few inches, he still has it. My tires to have a more aggressive tread design, but his are deeper. I realy would like to go offroad with him, either on some trails, on the fields or whatever. Not really to say "HA HA, MINES BETTER, but just to have someone to come along incase something happens. Prob would be more fun with someone else with a "built" rig. I want to get him some trail time and experience so he will know what he is doing. Classic Ford vs. Dodge war. hehehe
he may not even have a clearance advantage, his taller tires are on 1 ton axles, that dana 80 rear hangs low, and so does the 60 front, i say measure to see who has the most clearance.
Round these parts, 33's are big. Anyone who has bigger tires usualy are "trailer queens", never seein a hint of dirt and mud. I've seen a few show trucks with 38's on em (incl another friends truck at school) but most other trucks around here are pretty stock. Thats perty weird being out in the country surounded by muck farmers, huh?!?! Thats a good point about the diffs hanging low, I just thought there might be more clearance bec the truck sits higher than mine (dang, now Im the 2nd tallest truck at school!!). Well, since spring is officialy here, I think I'll welcome it with a good ol fashion trail ride this week!! BTW, how do diesel's fair offroad??
