My limited slip on my truck is completely gone " 2003 6.0 4x4" It only has 25,000 miles on it. will warranty cover a new one? also is a locker dif worth it, if so how much will it $$$ me?
Don't be offended by this but are you sure your truck came with one? I have a 03 F350 3.73 gears and I thought it had a LS. I bought the truck used in July and it originated in Canadia. I think the previous owner had it imported and had the gauge cluster changed to English units. I have heard you can do that and save several thousand dollars (or doh lars in Canadian). Anyway the first snow flew and I was pretty disapointed to find out that my rig did not have a LS rear. I looked at the window sticker (in French) and went to a translation website and found that the differential was in so many words "regular" or non LS. You can look in the tech folder to see how they mark the LS diffs. I think the Super Duty and Heavy Duty Tech folder has that in it.
If you find that it is (or if you really knew it all along - thanks for bearing with me), I think it should be covered under warranty. It would be hard to grenade a LS diff intentionally (wouldn't it?) so I would think FoMoCo should cover it. I have heard that they are north of $600 for a new one or to have one installed but don't quote me on that.
Personally, I work in Auburn, IN home of Auburn Gear. I could get an Auburn LS from a friend if I decide that I really really need a LS. I know some will say that the Auburns self destruct but, hey, I have the engineers right here! Anyway, good luck with that. We will see what happens.
I don't think I have ever heard a good thing about the limited slip. Do you really need it if none of the other makers are doing it? Excuse my ignorance--I should probably read up on this.
I too have the '03 6.0l 4x4 and only have about 500 miles to go before the warranty's gone. Take it to Ford--this should be covered.
