Heater Blower

I have been rebuilding a 77 F150, and the other night I tried to turn the vent on, and I got a puff of smoke from un the center of the dash, but no fan. When I flip the switch, I can hear the relay click to actuate the heat, and I checked, and the relay has 12 volts coming off of it when I turn it on. The truck sat outside for a long time before I resurrected it, so I'm guessing the blower motor is froze up. Does anyone have any suggestions or tricks on changing the motor? I know it's going to be a large pain in the butt.

A 77 shouldn't be too hard. I believe it's behind the right front wheel well. A manual will show you where to cut so that you can access it. That puff of smoke make be a short in a relay connection. Be sure and check the blower before you remove it.

I'm going to get into it later this week. I also have to find order one if I figure out that it's the problem. Keep you posted.

Does it have factory a/c? If so, follow the steps in the heater core tech article - link at top right of page. If no a/c, then it's a little easier. Be sure to test the motor for power before removing it. Hate to see you go to all that work for nothing.

I appreciate that. I will check the thread, and yes it does have a/c. it also has power to the motor. Thanks!
