will the newer 2004-05 towing mirrors with the turn signals, heated, and foldable front and back fit on a 2001 f-250...i'm sure i'll need a wiring adapter for it but i'd like to be shure they'll fit befor i get any...is it a simple on and off job or does it take something else?...any tips or advise would be great thanx
They will bolt right up. No problems. (FYI: 61 inch pounds of torque on the nuts) I recently upgraded my 2000 woth the new mirrors. The new mirrors have a flat connector with 7 pins. If you have the flat connector in your door already they will mate right up. If you have the round connector, you'll have to buy the adapter, or cut the plugs off and add your own connectors. Regardless of the connector you have, yours will probably only have 3 pins. I wanted mine to look as neat as possible, so I picked up 8 pins with pigtails from the dealer and added them to the flat adapter harnesses. I picked up a set of 4 pin Molex connectors from Radio Shack and used those to connect to the four new pigtails. So now everything for the new mirrors is plug and play.
how does the turn signal lights work?...i was just curious to know that...is there another wire that has to be run or will it work once i connect the wires already present...
You will have to run four additional wires to each mirror. One is a ground, one to power the marker light, one to power the turn signal and one for the mirror heat.
Some fellas tap into the turn signal circuits near the steering column. Since I was running wires to the front of the truck anyway, I tapped into the turn signal circuit near the front signals. I took the power for the marker lights off of the unused wire on my trailer brake harness under the dash, and for the mirror heat, I added a seperate circuit with a relay.
