78 F150 Carburetor problem
I am having a problem with the carb on my 78 F150. It has a stock Motorcraft 2bbl carb, which I replaced 2 years ago. The problem is that it is leaking gas around the bottom. There is a small puddle of gas on the intake manifold in front of the carb on the passenger side, and it also seems to be leaking a little bit of gas on each of the sides. Could the gasket be the problem? I did not use any type of gasket sealer when installing the carb. Could that be the problem? This was a remanufactured Motorcraft carb that I put on the truck, so I couldn't see it already going bad in such a short period of time, especially since this truck is rarely driven. I only use it on nice summer days. Also, the automatic choke on this carb quit working. Could I take the automatic choke off of any Motorcraft 2bbl from the same era and swap it over?

The chokes should be interchangable. Sounds like either the accelerator pump is leaking or possibly the power valve is leaking. remove the carb and check the power valve cover on the bottom of the bowl for leakage. Never use sealer on carb gaskets. You did the right thing by not using any.
