Hi, this is my first post on this forum, just became a member yesterday. Have a simple shocks question. How hard is it to install shocks on a 2001 F-250 SD, diesel, 4wd? I installed all 4 on my 97 F-150 about 6 years ago, it was a very simple job. If I remember right the top of the shock was a bolt that after bolting in the bottom I cut the plastic strap and guided the bolt on top through the appropriate hole as the shock expanded. With the 2001 SD, the shocks have 'eye bolts?' top and bottom. My worry is, if I bolt one side in and then cut the plastic strap so the shock expands out to where the other mount is, will I be able to get the bolt through the 'eyehole' as it passes by the mount? Does the shock expand quick? Or is there someother way of doing this? I bought Monroe Reflex shocks. Have read that people were happy with these although the Bilsteins and Ranchos seem to be much more popular.
If you have enough strength you can control the shock as it expands. If not jack up the frame of the truck and let the suspension fully articulate. You should be able to work the shocks from there.
On the front I mounted the bottom and then just muscled the top. The rear I removed the spare tire, mounted the top and muscled the bottom. The rear wasn't too hard because I'm only 5'7" so I can actually sit with my legs crossed under the truck (with spare tire removed, I'm not that short") and kind of two hand to "curled" the shock into place and then used one hand really quick to slide the bolt through. The front muscling was a more of a two handed over hand push. I'm not the hulk, so it took a couple of tries on the Bilsteins.

Thanks in advance!
