Have an 04 Explorer V-8 with aporox 23K on it. ABS light came on then went out. About 1K later came on and stayed on. Took it to the dealer and they said this is a known problem, tested it and said the module had to be replaced. Of course they don't have one so had to "special order it". Driving the vehicle now with an intermietend ABS light waiting for the part to come in. Anyone else heard of this "known problem?" If so is the new module an upgraded unit to fix the "known problem".
and the abs has been a constant problem. Have had the various sensors replaced 3 or 4 times and they still go bad. Now, I just let that abs light glow all it wants. Frankly the abs system on these are a joke.
Yeah. You have a AWD car right? The systems use the ABS sensors to monitor slip and act accordingly. When the sensors go bad, the ABS tries to kick in as well as the front wheel drive. I don't have one of these cars, well not a Ford but I have a AWD Durango, but I've seen some threads in here about that. Sorry I don't recall which threads but you may try a search. Had something to do with getting metal flakes and getting contaminated - the sensors in the diff's that is. And if you are still under warranty, of course, make the dealer figure it out and fix it.

That's correct my truck is AWD and thanks for the quick feedback. It's going to the dealership tomorrow.
Isn't the internet great! We get all this usefull information to go to the stinkin dealers armed for bear. My X was under warranty from Feb 1993 when I bought it new until Feb 1999 with the extended warranty I bought. Where was the internet then? Nothing like today. If it were not for the TSB subscription I got, I would not have 1/2 the little problems fixed that I did. It makes me glad to know that some of us can share our past trials and tribulations so others can benefit. I kind of feal like a group hug now.
