Unhappy Air bag light

My air bag light has decided to start blinking, and then stays on.
I just want to know why?

Count the blinks. It'll have two series of flashes. For example, it'll flash twice, then pause, then flash six times. That's a code 26. It will repeat the code a few times. The code will tell you what the problem is. You'll probably still have to take it to the dealer to get it fixed though. Here's some codes:

12 Low Battery Voltage
13 Air Bag Circuit or Crash Sensor Circuit - Shorted to Ground
15 Driver's Air Bag Sensor Fault.
21 Safing Sensor - Not Mounted on Vehicle Properly
22 Safing Sensor Output Circuit - Shorted to Battery Voltage
23 Safing Sensor Input Feed/Return Circuit Open
24 Open in Circuit 944B or Low Resistance in Crash Sensor(s)
25 Passenger de-activation switch error.
32 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open
33 Pin 7 Not Grounded at Diagnostic Monitor
34 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - Low Resistance or Shorted
35 Low Resistance Across Pins 8 and 9 at Diagnostic Monitor
41 Crash Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open
44 RH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
45 Center Radiator Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
46 LH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
51 Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Blown and Short to Ground No Longer Exists
52 Backup Power Supply - Voltage Boost Fault
53 Internal Diagnostic Monitor Fault

Air bag light code 27

DONT TAKE IT TO THE DEALER!!
I had the same code 27 in my 99 F250. The code 27 means the lightbulb in the passenger shut off is burnt out. At the factory ford decided to put 12 volts to a 3-4 volt light bulb. Use this link to fix your problem.

email me Mule@jg51.org and ill send you a photo of the finished fix. Also you need to take out your stereo, I used two welding rods bent in a u shape. incerted them in the four holes on either side of the stereo put light pressure outwards and pull the stereo out.

I had the same problem on my 1999 F-250 V-10 4x4. I had a friend who could get it to the dealer to have the code checked. It was free for me but usually $80.00. Turned out to be the bulb in the passanger side air bag mod. Problem with that was they don't sell just the bulb for that. I had to buy a resister that had the bulb in it. It's an easy fix, pull out the old, where the passanger air bag switch is, bring to dealer and get a new one. It plugs right in. The resister was about $80.00 I was told the dealer would have charged me over $300.00 to do the same thing.

Good luck with it, Bob

Just curiuos is this the instrument cluster light or the light on the on/off key switch?

The key light on my 99 was blinking and they put in a new key switch.

Do you have to reset the SRS system (clear codes) before the Air Bag light will stop coming on after fixing the problem with the code?

I bought an expedition without the drivers seat that has the air bag in it. Without the air bag, the code was set, and displayed. I now have a seat without the airbag, but it has the resistor to simulate it with the seat, and I plugged the connector into it. Light still on. Disconnected the battery, but still on. In the factory service manual, it says to use the scanner to reset codes, or turn the key on/off 128 times. Did it 140 times (without starting engine) and it still comes on. Should I try resetting the codes with the scanner? Don't have one, but can get access to it...
