I was reading a magazine and it had a small article on the supposedly New Excursion. Apparently Ford has built a SUV to compete with the Suburban. They might be naming it Excursion EX, but there debating on the name. It's 16" longer than the current Expedition. Anybody else caught this article? I believe it was in the Motor Trend Mag

Yes!! Everest is the name for the replacement for the Excursion as for now! Rumors are that it will have a solid rear axle, 16 inches longer than a expy and available with either a 4.5 v6 stroker or a bigger (6.2) gas motor! Details are still sketchy

The 6.2L "Hurricane" V-8 gasser has been killed by Ford.
I do not believe Ford has a V6 diesel that can pass the EPA standards for a vehicle in the under 8600 weight class. When clean diesel fuel is mandated in 2007, I bet it will be easier to meet the standards.

What exactly is happening with the Excursion? I thought it was discontinued as of '04, but I just saw some brand new ones at the Hertz in Denver, clearly '05 style grills etc. Was their announcement to discontinue it just a PR response to all the complaints about it's size and thirst?
Why would Ford need to compete with Suburban when Ford sells every Excursion they build. Chevy can sell a bag of cupcakes right now. I think they are redesigning Excursion to satisfy public and sell higher numbers of them. Which is good business but that Excursion is unequaled in my opinion.
I know that, you know that...but tell the customers that. The 3/4T makes up about 12% of the Suburban model mix- which tells a story in itself. The Excursion is a fine truck- it's just too much truck for the majority of the market base it's trying to address. I just shot that post out because, for all of GM's problems (and there's plenty), full-size SUV's don't count amongst them.
Bad comparison. The X outsells the 3/4 ton suburban, which is what its competing against.
IMO, Ford didn't put 1/2 ton springs under a 3/4 ton truck to appeal to the 3/4 ton truck buyer, they did it to compete with the 1/2 ton suburban in it's main roll as a mom taxi. I'd guess Ford would disagree that they designed the Ex to only compete with the 3/4 ton 'burb since those are outsold 9 to 1 by the 1/2 ton version. It'd make a lot more sense to try and appeal to that bigger market. I think Ford's mistake was to try and straddle the fence.
By offering both a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton version, GM knows that when someone orders a 3/4 ton, they're not going to complain about a little worse mileage and a little stiffer ride since they're most likely getting it to tow fairly big loads.
Interesting about the new truck, though. I'll look forward to reading more about that.

Still toten the 1/2 ton X line eh jeb?

Why would they do that, they already have one its called the Expedition which sells about as well as the 1/2 ton burb.
Don't you get tired of slamming the X? Your arguments didn't wash when you owned your lemon X, they don't wash now that you have your beloved sub/youkon/tahoe whatever it is you got.
