Sorry for the long post but i'm trying to explain:
I have about 12K miles (only modification is the Hog 4" cat back) and have had no problems so far, but lately I had been hearing a strange noise after acceleration, then.... The noise kind of sounded like waaaaaa. The sound started loud and then attenuated down. Each time it happened, it lasted about 3 seconds.
The noise went away so I figured that all was good. On the way back from pismo (pulling a trailer), the truck started overheating, and I experienced a reduction of power. I usually go about 55 MPH over cuesta grade, but I could barely go 35-40. The temp gage (gauge) was reading in the red and the check engine lighe was on. I reduced speed and the temp dropped a bit. I continued on and got home ok, but there were several times the temp gauge would shoot up and the (loud) engine fan turns on.
Now, my truck is overheating in the drive-thru, and in the morning, the engine fan starts up as I am leaving the driving away (and it's only about 45 degrees outside).
I'm taking it in friday, but do you have any ideas what it might be?
I checked the coolant, and everything under the hood including the under of the hood is white with the film of the coolant. Because of all this blown coolant, the resavore is empty.
There is one correction I need to make. I stated that the check engine light was on. That is the amber engine symbol on the bottm left of the cluster. I should have said that the check gage (red light in the top right of cluster) was on.
This was probably due to the high temp reading of the truck.
I just checked the coolant level, and it was bare! It took quite a bit to get it to the min fill line, and like I said, there is white film from the coolant all over the inside of the hood and motor.
