Hi Guys, been a lurker for a while, love the site...
I bought a used 99 F250 CC 2WD with the V10 and 56k miles on it in mid January. My first pickup and I love it ;-)
For the last couple of weeks the brakes have been squeaking when applied gently at slow speeds. The pads had 85% left when I bought it so I am quite confident that its not that they have worn through. (BTW Do these brakes usually have indicators or squealers? )
So the question is, is the squeak normal? What could be causing it?
I checked the rotors and found some brown dust on them. I park in a lot that is very muddy and gritty sometimes and from the color of the dust on the rotors I would guess its was coming from there.
Yes this is normal on the superduty. You can quieten it down some with a product (not sure about the name) that can be purchased at your local parts store. It has a reddish tint to it and you paint it on the back of the pads and re-install. It helped with mine a great deal. Did the front and back, even though I don't think the rear was squeeling. The squeel comes from the pads moving around in their location at a high rate of speed sort of like a high speed chatter.
