I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who lives several states away so bear with me. It's been about 10 years since I owned this vintage of Ford so I've forgotten a lot about them.
My friend has a 1981 F-350 that he's trying to identify the motor. When he bought it, he was under the impression that it had a 460, but it has a 2 bbl carb on it. According to his local parts store, a 460 of this vintage would not have a 2 bbl. He and I suspect it has a 351 or 400, but we're not real sure. If it helps, this truck was allegedly built in Canada.
Is there anything he can look for (ie. a sticker, tag, or number) that would help him figure out what motor it has?
There should be a Vehicle Indentification Number (VIN) Tag on the dash board and the cab of the truck. Open the driver and passenger side doors, and there should be a sticker on the inside of the door frame. The VIN number will tell you what kind of motor, transmission, paint color, etc. the truck came with. There are different codes for different motors. Some of the people on this message board should be able to help you when you have those VIN codes available, or you could look them up at your local library or auto parts store.
