IAC or IABV, what does it do ??
I posted a few days ago about my 92 F150 5.0L w 5spd that sometimes races between gears. I also talked to another Ford dealer who suggested, as a test, to disconnect the Idle Air Bypass Valve. I did this today and was surprised with no engine racing ! Although my idle was around 500 rpms. Should I replace the IABV with a Ford replacement or will after market (Wells) be okay ? Thanks all !

Test it before you replace it , I cant recall or find the thread you originally posted , Did you try to clean it first ? The resistance on the solenoid should be 7 to 13 Ohms . Place the positive lead of the Dvom on the Vpwr pin & the Negative on the Isc pin . The Vpwr pin is the top pin . Are you getting any codes from the Ecu , If so , what are they ?

Thanks for the info on how to test it. I'll check it out tomorrow. I originally posted on May 10. I re-connected the IABV on my way home from work and almost immediately it started racing between gears and the idle was hanging around 1000-1200rpms.
