I have been trying to figure out which leveling kit to go with for my 04 sc FX4. There are quite a few that i have found with different designs, daystar, revtek, trailmaster (bds), and autospring. I would appreciate any info that anyone could give me regarding quality and fit of these kits. The revtek seems appealing, but is ride quality a concern with the pre load spacers? I also would prefer a 2'" as the truck will be used for some towing. Any feedback is much appreciated.
This subject has been discussed at length before...up near the top of the page you will find the word "SEARCH".....type in "leveling kit" or "daystar" or "Autospring" and you will be taken to the promised land.
Just recieved my auto spring kit yesterday. IMO, messing with the strut springs is a bad thing. the springs on the 150's is very strong. personally watched a spring compressor brake and the spring went through the grage door and broke the windshield of the truck parked outside. If you are going to do the work yourself, get the kit that has a metal spacer that goes ontop of the strut housing. (no spring compressor needed) If you decide on the plastic spacer kit and the spring compressor method, get some name brand struts (Rancho, etc.) and replace then at that time. (FX4's do not have Rancho's installed anymore!!) It will save time/money down the road. I am planning on doing the install on the wife's truck this weekend. I'll post pictures then. I purchased off of E-Bay $119 delivered. It took them a full week to be delivered. UPS ground. But to have solid metal parts and not have to mess with the spring, worth every penny.
No need to search. www.autospringcorp.com. Easy to install, great ride. I have the 2" kit in my FX4( FX4 supposedly has diff. spring rate) and raised it 2.25 - 2.5"(rear sits 1" higher)Check my gallery for pics.
I personally like the solution of taking blocks out from under the rear leaf springs, saw it posted on here a while ago. I saw a SCrew Lariat the other day that had this done and it looked awesome. Toned down the wheel well spacing a little bit, got rid of the a$$ up position completely and most likely contributed to the handling rather than hindering it. If you raise the front to meet the rear height, you are raising the overall center of gravity a touch, and therefore adversely affecting the handling, albeit by a slight margin. Having come from custom tuned suspensions on all my cars, I tend to lean towards better handling over increased ride height, but that's my preference. There are a lot of great posts about levelling on these boards, these guys really know their stuff.
Does the autospring kit use the same size/ grade fasteners as stock? Are the any negative effects of using a spacer on top of the strut?
I personally don't know if the fasteners are the same or not(I'm relatively sure they are). You could ask them www.autospringcorp.com. Other than maybe wearing out the CV joints a little sooner, I don't know of any other negatives. It's a pretty simple set-up when you think about it, all it does is lower the strut assy. down.
Another vote for the Daystar kit. Went together very easily and quickly. And leveled the truck out just the right amount IMO. The best part is you dont lose any spring capacity up front. Highly recommended.
