Brakes
1) What is the purpose of the 360 degree coils in the brake lines from the
master cyliner to the pressure differential valve assembly? Are they
necessary for proper function?
2) How does the pressure differential valve assembly work? If the brakes
were performing satisfactorily before the restoration is it necessary to do
anything to it or replace it?
I will certainly appreciate any information or ideas.
Thanks. dlhngrs
The proportioning valve reduces the pressure to the rear brakes because the rear brakes require less force than the front brakes.
The amount of brake force that can be applied to a wheel without locking it depends on the amount of weight on the wheel. More weight means more brake force can be applied.
If equal braking force were applied at all four wheels during a stop, the rear wheels would lock up before the front wheels. The proportioning valve only lets a certain portion of the pressure through to the rear wheels so that the front wheels apply more braking force.

the pressure diff valve will close the lines to the front or back off if one should fail, still leaving you with brakes. it is what the switch for the small brake warning light under the dash is in.
i would definatley do a brake job on it if you are doing a restoration. you never know when something will fail, especially when one is that old, and brakes are something you don't want to fail.
