Here in Texas I believe it's 8.2 % but their trying to raise it to 9.2 % Their also trying to add another $1 tax on a pack of cigarettes. All you non-smoking fanatics please don't bombard me with "thats good" and "you shouldn't smoke anyway" and "they should be a hundred dollars a pack" replies. I've heard them all. In this case they don't care if you smoke, they just want the money.

RATE:
City - 1/4% (.0025) - 2% (.02), depending on local rate. Texas cities have the option of imposing an additional local sales tax for a combined total of state and local taxes of 8 1/4% (.0825)
County - 1/2% (.005) - 1.5% (.015), depending on local rate. Texas counties have the option of imposing an additional local sales tax for a combined total of state and local taxes of 8 1/4% (.0825).
Transit - 1/4 % (.0025) - 1% (.01), depending on local rate. Texas transit authorities have the option of imposing an additional local sales tax for a combined total of state and local taxes of 8 1/4% (.0825).
Special Purpose Districts - 1/8% (.00125) - 1% (.01), depending on local rate. Texas special purpose districts have the option of imposing an additional local sales tax for a combined total of state and local taxes of 8 1/4% (.0825).

another big fat Zero here too.
This state takes local businesses to the cleaners though, and homeowners... our gasoline tax is pretty high too. Last november we voted in an 80% tax hike on smokers.
