Cat. converters

I was looking under my truck the other day and I noticed soemthin kinda interesting. I'm use to newer vehicles so maybe this is jsut what they do now a days. I have a 2002 4x4 4.oL supercab ranger. I think I have 3 catalytie converters. One on the right side exhaust pipe when it crosses over behind the engine, one at the junction of the two exhaust pipes, and one where they normally are a couple feet back from the muffler. Now I have a sticker on my truck that says its a LEV(Low emissions vehicle). Is this why? In this case could I simply cut those off and help my engine breathe a little better? Just have one catalytie converter. Or am I completely wrong and have no clue what the hell ford is doing to my truck.

not sure why there are three but dont cut them off

It is against Federal law to tamper with the converters. I am not sure about your specific truck, but it is very common on modern vehicles to have a resonator just before the muffler. It does not restrict flow, it just quiets the tone of exhaust.

Gutting the cat will not get you anything but dirty air. Modern engines are flow tuned by the manf for best performance/air quality/ mileage. In the old days people use to talk about tuned headers. Todays engines have tuned intake and exhaust systems and messing with the intake sliencer or cats without the aid of a dyno will not do anything except cost you power/mileage and the rest of us dirty air. PLEASE DON"T DO IT.

i dont know alot about engines ,but i do know newer engine need the proper amount of back pressure also.
