Has anyone had a problem unlocking the door w/a key as if it were the wrong key??I have had this problem off and on and now it is on all the time. When it works it works just fine not hard to turn or anything and then the next time it just won't turn either way. I am hoping I don't have to remove the door panel but it aint lookin good.
Thanks
Sometimes your key can get bent in your pocket. Give it a look and straighten it out if it's bent. The key and/or the lock mechanism can also wear some. What I do is I take the factory keys and make copies. I use the copies and store the originals. That way if I ever damage a copy I can make another. If your key isn't bent then try making another key.
yes i the same problem, it seems that the key is wrong but if i wiggle and turn at the same time it will finally get it but takes to long and is aggravating but when it turns it turns real smooth. i don't know what the problem is. when i loked at it on the lot i wanted to get in and check the milage but they couldn't get it open but they garunteed the milage was right and i know the people there real well so i knew they wouldn't lie so i bought it and they had to call a licksmith out to get it unlocked and the milage was correct 160,000
I have a similar problem on my 93.
-If I use the power door locks, I cannot open the drivers door with the key.
-If I manually push down on the drivers lock, the key will open it.
I noticed the drivers lock goes down further than the passengers. I think the door lock actuator is the problem.
i don't know i think it is something to do with the keys, maybe they are made too soft (the ford keys that is) because i have also noticed that just about any ford key will start my ignition, my old boss' ranger key it was a 95 and a key i found worked and a 88 f-150 key also, this kinda worries me because anyone with that type of key can jump in and start it and leave with my truck.
I agree with 93greenf150, the electric door lock actuators in my '90 are causing the same problem. The rubber boots on them are gone or leaking and the actuators are very stiff, they only work if you push the manual button while you push the electric switch.

Thanks everyone , I think I will try the dry graphite as it seems as though something is hanging up every once in a while. I tried the electric look deal with no luck, may also try wd-40, will let you know the result.
Get a new key I had one for MY 1984 f-150 that had so much pocket wear on it it would not unlock the the truck. Had new key made from wifes key everything working fine.
Don't use WD40. It's oil and oil attracts dirt. Your problem will only get worse. If you don't want to use graphite there are other synthetic lubes you can use that are not oil based. They won't attract dirt like WD40 will. I learned this with my mountain bike. I started using WD40 and after riding a while the chain turns black. It didn't take but a few months and the chain had stretched due to wear. I bought a new chain, lubed it with Pedros syn lube and now my chain is never dirty. Always shiny and it's 5 years old with no stretch. The stretch is due to getting dirt in the links and the dirt grinds out the steel. You don't want dirt doing the same thing to your already pain-in-the-a** door lock. You can get Pedros Syn Lube lube in any bicycle shop. I use it on everything. I also found a can of Remington synthetic gun lube in a Walmart store. It was a little cheaper than Pedros and it worked great on everything without attracting dirt.
Thanks tex94F250 you hit the nail on the head, I put some antifreeze w/graphite in and problem was solved. Wish everything worked out this way. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, this web site is the best
