Truckasaurus gets some audio...
To get ready for summer, I decided to do some audio mods and get the truck ready for cruisin on the highway trips. Here is what is going in next week:
- Kenwood KDC-MP428 (mp3 deck with 3 - 4v preamps) $179 shipped
- Infinity Kappa 572.5cf components for front doors - $77
- Kenwood KFC-6889ie (not kentucky fried chicken) - 6x8's for the rear - $56.92 shipped
- Dual 10" Sub box by compition audio (ebay) $99 + $40 shipping
- KENWOOD TORNADO 10" 700w Subs (350 RMS)
- Distribution block, factory wiring kit & mounting bracket for head unit, misc wiriing - $35
- Gemini 2-ch amp (for subs) 200w rms x 2 (pre existing)
- Alpine 4ch amp 40w x 4 rms (pre existing)
Total invested: ~ $600
I am hoping this thing really kicks but suspect it will be slightly better than my factory single disk cd system!
Anyone have any hot tips of advice? I have acquired tons of info from our forums such as rear seat removal for amps, speaker grille (front) and door panel (rear)removal etc. Anyone have trouble or special notes for running wires? This will be my second system I install so I should be able to figure it out.
Anyone use the console (capt chairs in front) to either relocate jack or house one of the amps???
Thanks,
T
Where did you get those prices, they look on the Very Good Place to Buy side, especially for such nice brands?

I noticed that they didn't have the new model in their fit guide, just lightning and heritage. Seems strange. Still, at these prices, I think they are well worth the time to hunt down the goodies.
I ask a lot of questions sometimes cause I'm thinking of the 99% of readers who don't post that might want a little more info. .
Your new sounds are gonna Rock. er, or Country, or something.
I do like Crutchfields installation guides, but yeah, nobody says their prices are good.

I think the trick was to ignore it's request to continue and just stop there and look for parts.
It showed FD1424 as the adaptor. I bought one that looks almost like that from Circuit City. It's better looking, but with a smaller pocket to the one I bought from Crutchfield.
Although, at Crutchfield it comes with two complete units, one for a doubled din, one for a single with large pocket. The double can mount two different singles, one on top of the other. cardomain.com doesn't seem to show a double mount. Or at least I didn't see one. Don't know how many want that though.
If you are using only one single din, the one at cardomain.com looks like an excellent looking adaptor.
