Truck won't start

I have a 2000 power stroke. New batteries, new altenator. the last time it started for the the auto trans selector needed to be close to reverse to start, like something is out of alignment. Now I can't get it to start anywhere through the pattern. Is there anyway to override the park/ n switch so I can atleast drive it to a repair facility?

Thanks

There's a neutral override switch that you can try. I think it is under the dash on the passenger side. Try searching forum for it.

Thanks,
I searched with not much luck. Is the switch fairly easy to replace?

Thumbs up

Senic,
Does your truck motor turn over at all or is just a dead key. If it is a dead key you might try your starter relay. My 99.5 had a bad starter relay just about 3 months ago. I had all the bells and whistles but nothing would happen when I rolled the key over to the start postion. My mechanic tuned into a bad relay when I told him it would start after I slammed my hood. This relay is over on the right side fender well. I also had suspected my shifter switch but my mechanic told me that those seldom go out, sooooo.....
Anyway, my .02! Goodluck!!!

Thumbs up Relay testing?

Senic,
I don't know if the starter relay can be tested some way. I just had mine replaced while it was in the shop. I don't remember the cost but I don't think they are very expensive - $20 to $30 dollars. It looks like something easy to replace but I just had it done in the shop.
OH, just an FYI. They (Ford) calls the shift indicator on the tranny a PRNDL (pronounced Prindle) SWITCH. Stands for: Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Low
Sorry I can't help more!!!

Well,

I just replaced the starter relay, and no luck.
Is there a good book I could get, I think my next step is some type of neutral safety switch. I have full power all lights and bells are working, I don't know where to go next.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!

Just had the same problem last week and it was the starter relay. All the lights would come on but when I turned the ignition from RUN to START it would do nothing. If this is what you are getting try this: get under the truck and jump the power on the starter constant power to the starter solenoid. This will let you know if you are or aren't getting power to the solenoid mounted on top of the starter. If you aren't getting power and the relay is good try replacing the ignition under the dash(got mine at O'Reillys for $20). Need a "star" head wrench to get it off, but then it is just unplugging and replugging the new one in. If this doesn't work I don't know except the Neutral safety switch in which I don't know where it is located! Keep us up-to-date!
thanks,
