Thanks all for the tips so I still haven't tracked it down, replaced the ignition switch, it appears there is a short between the switch and solinoid. I am new to modern cars with this many wires under the dash, how do I trace down where this wire runs or is this just a job for finding the right wire on the switch and running it directly to the solinoid to get around the short ? THanks again
You could either bypass the circuit like you said, or use a wiring diagram to trace it and repair it. Even if you decide to jump it, you should still use a wiring diagram. That way you will know if there is anything between the switch and the solenoid. I really don't know. Maybe a fusible link, or a resistor or some sort of relay; I can't say that I know for sure. But it would be wise to find out for sure. I have the wiring diagrams for a 1990 5.8, but I don't know if they would be the same as your 95.
I am having a similiar problem with my ignition (i believe is the problem) I have checked the fuses and they seem good. How do i check for other circuit breaker or is that not a possibility? How can you tell if a circuit breaker is bad?
Here's the situation..
I replaced the solenoid. I charged the battery- when reattaching the cables to the battery - the truck tried to start on its own - without me in the driver's seat and turning the key. WEIRD! Has anyone heard or know anything about this? The battery is charged to 12 volts. I have been told it could be the ignition switch. Does anyone have pics on replacing this? How do you open the steering column to access the switch?
Hi All , well I installed the alternate switch, I traced the wires and never found the short . I just didnt have the time on this one, maybe someday Thanks !
