For you Transmission types: Is there any way to test the Torque Converter Lockup function? My 94, B3000 barfed it's transmission fluid (again) on the interstate Saturday (3rd time). Seal has been replaced a couple times after the rebuild. Still a problem at sustained high speed runs. Could be the converter is not locking up.
It's got an ODB-1 (EEC-IV) system with 2 digit codes. If it is a problem, should I get an 88 or 89 code? Can the lockup be tested on a road test?
Well, needing the vehicle and not having time to properly troubleshoot it, I copped out and gave it to a transmission guy who I trust more than others. He test drove it with the monitor and indicated everything was working fine. He pulled the tranny and said the front seal was split. He dropped the pan and it looked great.
I think it may be time to dump this otherwise great vehicle. 2 total tranny rebuilds and 2 seal replacements suggest to me there is a problem. I can't afford the tows. A shame because I've fixed/replaced all mechanical stuff except the engine which is still going strong.
