i know i should be posting in exaust forum, but actually i did it seems that no one goes in there though.
i want to make my truck louder so i thought i would remove the cat, and i was wondering if it would effect my motor, give me a loss in horsepower, and what can i do with the O2 sensor after the cat, can i just drill a new hole and put it back in or what? or should i leive the cat and take out the two mufflers.
first off, other than increased performance, or a deeper tone, why do you want a really loud truck? ok unless you live in a state that does not perform motor vehicle mechanical inspections, or emmissions inspections, leave the cats there. or you will not be able to tag your truck. your o2 sensor that is after the cat will make your ecu do bad things without a cat. if your after performance, get a high flow cat, and a good performance muffler, i buy mine from summit racing, but jegs is good too. flowmaster, hooker aero-chamber, flo-tech afterburner are all good deeptoned mufflers that are much louder than stock, but not so loud you will hate your truck, or maybe even wake up to flat tires because your neighbors hate your exhaust
I live in PA and I cut my cat out w/o any problems, just for fun I took it to a new shop for this years inspection and emissions and it passed fine, they didnt even ask me about it, so they tagged my truck, I also have a 96 f20 HD, so I only have 1 O2 sensor, that is dirrectly before the cat so I left that there and just made new tubes for it, its now a true dual exhaust with 2 super 40 mufflers from flowmaster, it gets pretty loud but only when Im standin on the throttle. It helped performance imensly(sp?), but it all depends on whcich truck he has, where he lives etc.
If youre looking for a high flow cat I have one for our trucks, its a catco cat, I got it from Summit, Id love to part with it if youre interested, I thought Id need it but I dont, let me know if yure interested---Dinty

Gotta laugh at that one.
My next door neighbors kid spent something like $500 to make his car sound like the exhaust fell off(and that's exactly what it sounded like). His dad had to buy him 3 sets of tires and they found rags stuffed in the exhaust on numerous occasions. Just about everyone in our neighborhood knew who was doing it but noboby would tell' em who because he/she was sort of a local hero.
Talking to the dad one day while tactfully confronting him about it, he told me he was seriously considering moving away because of the way people glared at him and his family. They were thoroughly hated. Even I got some nasty looks because I was seen talking to him even though I was getting blasted the worst. Since we were getting along at the moment I offered some suggestions which he apparently agreed to.
They've since put quieter mufflers on it and everyone is happy and well rested again. He even stopped blasting us with his stereo for fear of reprisal. A few of the neighbors later thanked me for helping end our shared nightmare. The once noisy neighbors are even starting to make friends.
i live in the boonies here in the hills of tennessee and there is no problems like that here, everyone truck is like this, i just wanted my truck to sound different from the others. just wanted some info on it. should i cut the cat or the muffler, but i have looked at it so i am not going to cut the cat because it has 2 in 1 out on it, so how would it sound if i cut the mufflers off?
If you just cut the mufflers off it'll sound loud but not good - usually. Tailpipes really change the sound for good or worse. I'd take the mufflers out but keep some tailpipe(s).
Cats (high flow) with resonators or double glass packs (two left, two right) but no mufflers and long tailpipes produces a rich, mellow tone and a nice volume (not too loud, but you can hear the thunder when you git it). Modern cats are not the big flow restrictors that older ones once were, and usually very little is gained by their removal. Factory mufflers, however... (cough, hack, wheeze
I want to keep the quiet sound of my 300ci, but I'm just wondering if there is any more to be gained powerwise with the stock exhaust system with keeping it super quiet.... ?
What's stock pipe, 2-1/4"? I'd have a lot of money in a new exhaust system if I went that route you mentioned. What about the stock resonator - could it be cutout?
