I always thought you should go by the pressure rating on the door of the vehicle. The pressure stamped on the tire does not take into consideration the weight of the vehicle the tire is being put on but the sticker on the door does. KS

In a perfect world I would heartly agree. However when the sales department drives the Exploder and says it rides to rough and then changes the sticker on the door to read 26lbs so your lady will enjoy the ride... Well we all can see what it caused can't we. Too many departments in making and selling a vehicle.. I betcha the pressure on the door post today is higher than it was on the rollover exploders..

Sales can't do that... engineering would have to sign off. They won't sign off on a lower pressure than what they feel is safe unless they're willing to take the consequences. Obviously, in one case, they didn't see that. There are lots of things that go into making a car. Lots of ways to tweak it. Lots of lawyers to sue big companies for things that may or may not be the company's fault. So naturally, car makers try to reduce the likelihood of an accident. Those stickers can't be changed by any one person, or department for that matter. The checks and balances thing is there for a reason!

Good luck there D-ranged2.5 with trying to explain it to Big Jim M. I was officially blue in the face several posts ago. No one was still talking about this 1 situation that happened except him. So maybe we better all start talking about not wearing a seat belt because there were a hand-full of people thrown clear of an accident.

Reality check Big Jim M: Explorers out weigh Rangers by 1000 some pounds. That is apples and oranges when it comes to how the rubber meets the road. By all means please keep your tires inflated to the MAX if it makes you happy, but stop trying to convince others that Ford (and other automakers) are out to kill them.
