So I've reached the point where you have to drive that B**ch of a seal onto the axle... I'm on my second seal since my father took it upon himself to try and seat it without listening to what I had to say about making the tool with the flange and what not... So while I was at Ford today, I asked if they could seat it on the axle for me... I'm pretty sure they were giving me the run around when they said that it would take at least 45 minutes and cost about 75 dollars in labor... Also, they said that the tool they use is also used to set the axle in the knuckle without damaging the outer edge of the seal.
So! My question for you is, what do I do now? I've got a new seal and I really don't intend on buying a third. Was ford giving me a load of crap? and, if you've made a tool to set the seal, what did you use for the flange end?
Do a search cuz a guy posted a long how-to step by step like last week with all kinds of pics.
As far as the dealer BS'ing you thats what they do best although not every one puts the big "S" in stealership.
Good luck
