I am pretty sure I seen a older D with '05 wheels on it the other day, I wouldn't be supprised if they rubbed, they were really tucked in the wheel wells, looked bad!
I have an 05 that came with 18" wheels but BFGs won't come in that size. I bought after market (Procomp) so I have the take-offs with 65 miles. A friend with an 04 Excursion needed tires and we thought the wheels would fit, so we tried... and tried. Even with 3/8" spacers between the rotors and wheels, the tires (295s) still hit the leaf spring. It looked like we still needed another 3/4". (and I was only asking $400!). Bummer.
They didn't work with 3/8" spacers and it looked like it would require at lease another 1/2 to 3/4 inch to clear. I would be concerned with the extra stress if using 1" spacers and the studs would be too short.
The '05 wheels have the same 8 x 170mm bolt centers and the same 4.93" bore hub center as the '99-'04's, but the offsets are different. The '99-'04's have 0.25" offset where as the 05" are 1.57", so a difference of 1.32"
