There is always a way. In this case you will need to find out how all the cruise buttons and wheel connections work and duplicate these functions in a new switch box you will have to build. The EVTM (electrical vacuum troubleshooting manual) for your truck will give you that information. (available from www.helminc.com) It will take a fair amount of rewiring and figgeringout. The steering wheel cruise system communicates to the cruise servo using different resistance values for different functions.
I thought "Grant" made kits for this for some of their steering wheels?
If not, when you take your old wheel off, take out the cruise control buttons and the wiring, and measure the resistance of each combination of button press, and terminals at the back of the wheel. Then solder up a small plastic radio shack box with four pusbhbuttons with resistors to match, then mount that box either on your dash or on your steering column - and run the wires to the harness at the base of the column near the firewall (about a foot out or so).
Then you have relocated your cruise control, and you can run any ordinary wheel that fits the column head.
