Blown Engine

long story. For a little less than a year I've been having some Head gasket probs, So I went and got it fixed about 2 weeks ago. When my mechanic took my engine apart he told me that only 4 of my cylinders where working. He said he dosen't know how long its been like that, but you should get this fixed as soon as possible. So I went and got a brand new head, and he put it on along with my new gasket. Truck drove like new money, so I decided to take it on the highway to test it out. I took a trip going about 75-80 mph for about 15 min drive. When I got off the freeway my engine started smoking and it would not pull at all. It had this bad clacking sound coming from under the hood too. So I had to get it back home, got back on the highway and drove about half way home before it bucked real hard, lights dimmed and the engine shut off. A hose which looked like it went to the coolant tank busted and it started smoking again. So the towtruck had to come and take my truck back to my mechanic. He tells me that there was a compression problem. Something about me running on 4 cyclinders for so long then running on 6, messed up the compression in the engine. He said I blew out something in the bottom of the engine, can't remeber what he said. Right now im waiting on a new engine, my question is, Could that really happen? The whole compression thing?

sound to me that the crank bearings (the ones were the rod conects to the crank) wore out bc i had the same problem in a 86 chevy blazer 2.8 l that i had and it did the same thing

Now that I think about it, He did say something about some bearings. Any ideas on what kind of engine I should get?

ONLY A 91-94 4.0 if you get a newer one it won't run right...little story I learned THE HARD WAY after 94 the changed the style of the heads from open chamber to close chamber and changed the pistons ... the 95 has low compresion piston with closed head.... I bought a runnig 94 engine the "mechanic" just put a head on it and during the test drive he crashed it.. so I bought it and the tranny for $1000 (only had 66,000 ) miles on it... well installed it and noticed soemthing wrong with the tempature rasie lower and bearly no heater... drove it a week and poff it just quit.... pulled the motor to find out he stuck a 95 head on there and burnt a hole in each of the pistons on that side!!!!!
