Last night, with little sleep I was doing an oil change in the garge, no problem right.. well, I left the truck over night and went to move it this afternoon, sterio was turned up loud and when I turned it down when I back out of the driveway, I here hissing.. meh.. alright, still moving the truck onto the street, figure somethign wrong, look back, got a trail of something. partk it, shut it off.. its oil.. oil filter didnt seal worth crap. I decided to try a non motocraft filter and meh, ill never do that again, looks as if I was tightening it, the seal moved and I never noticed. Hard lesson, dumped 4-5L of oil all over my drivway and the street and now im left with cleaning it up.
Any ideas on how to do that, dumped two bags of kittyliter on it, but I still got this HUGE streak down the street and drivway, (not to menchen all the oil all over the bottom of the truck). What would you guys sugest to clean that up? I was tempted to presure wash it, and did so for a second, then the oil spread everywere, leaving the oil rainbow in the watter. obvious I was just pushing it down into the drain. My other option is to use gass and foot by foot scrub it out, let the gass evaperate, but I dono how well that will work.
Live an learn.. either way, things aint goin my way today
hmmm, so your still sugesting I presure wash it. Iv herd of Varsol, but still dont know what it is, best thing I can think of around the house is TSP...
looking at the section I did presure wash, looks like the oil did come out, but I still have that worry about sending the oil down the drain. But in another thought, harms already been done, if I leave the rain to do it, its gonna run down the drain either way..
This why I tell people to test it in their garage to see if there are any leaks. At least in there NOBODY would know! except mom! And probably wouldn't have lost so much oil.

paint thinner the good stuff not the cheapie brand pour it on sweep it around with a pushbroom and p/wash it away works great on concrete gets it really clean
Leave it there. It will remind you never to make the same mistake again. Don't know where you live, but sun, rain, snow and snow melting materials wil take care of that stain in just enough time for you to never forget about it.

I think iv learned my lesson, belive me,
Scrubed with laundry soap and presure washed the hell outa it. Will see how it looks when it all drys in the morning. Driveways done, but didnt attempt the street yet, tomorrows project.
I WAS gonna suggest Brakleen, but, seeing your pics. . . .
TSP and your pressure washer.
If you are not expecting any rain or snow for a couple of days, kitty litter will go a long way to helping clean up your spill.
Cross your fingers that someone near you hasn't claimed an environmental spill.
(Don't laugh, guys. One of my co-workers knocked over his drain-pan, and his neighbor filed a complaint with the county environmental agency. He got fined $1,000!!!!!)
ya no kidding. but bought like the stupid stunt i pulled trying to rotate tires. i was trying to find the center of the frame and i was so focused on that ..... i forgot that i was jacking on the oil pan.....that was a 250 dollar lesson. trust me i check 3-4 even 5 times before i put any pressure on it. just a live and learn. it wasn't the filter brand per se i think it was just a faulty one ...... but you won't live it down for a while ...... good story.... made my day thanks!
As long as we're telling oil change stories; the wife used to own a 94 escort. I changed the oil in the yard (before I built the garage). It was gettin dark and I didn't notice the old seal was not in the old filter. It was still stuck to the motor. So when I put the new filter (with new seal) on, it didn't seal to the block. Cranked it up and slung 2-3 qts of fresh motor oil in the yard.(don't tell the EPA) Since then, the wife's front wheel drive, side-ways mounted motor, no room under the hood cars have gone to the local oil and lube place. I still change my own in the pickup. But I double check to make sure the old seal has come out with the old filter.
I got 1 more: My cousin asked his mom to use her Pontiac grand am to go to the beach. She said he had to change the oil before the trip. So he climbed under the car to drain the oil but drained the transmission pan instead. Then he put 4 more qts of oil in the motor. They live in E.TN, but when he started it up he gave a new meaning to the name: Smoky Mountains. He said when he put it in gear it wouldn't move, but by darn, it was well lubed.

Glad it made somones day
I dont think the filter brand had much to do with it, but I gotta blame something other then myself. But as I was taking the filter off, the seal just poped right out, and when I was looking at it beforhand (after I noticed the leaking problem, it seemed as if the seal was WAY off to one side, I cant even imagine how that would have happend when I put the filter on, its not like I was bashing it around, or tipping it upside down.. just as you normaly would go about doing it. Needless to say, I just went out and bought the filter that has never let me down inthe past and stuck her on, made sure the seal was right and started the truck to double check for leaks, which i USUALY do, but with it beeing a saturday night oil job, and still beat from friday night, I just left the truck overnight without starting it, and assumed when I turned the key, everything would be alright.
But, 1h+ cleanup with kitty litter, 2h+ preasure washing will make me sure not to do that again.
Sure hope no one calls up on the enviromental issue, yes Im concerned about it, but Iv already made the mastake and sure the hell learned from it, hope others will also make a check again, and check for leaks with vehicle running.
