Hot AOD TRANNY/and Inline magnetic Tranny filter
Hey guys, I have a 96' F150 2wd with the 300 I6... Has anyone had a problem with the tranny running hot?? I do a lot of Highway driving. When I get off the highway it sounds like you can hear the tranny fluid boiling in the pan. Occasionally it starts to slip and wine....Any Recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Also there is what appears to be an inline Magnetic filter on the return line from the radiator, Is that factory????? And when do you know when it needs to be replaced? For starters I just installed a Hayden tranny cooler.. Thanx for the help.

Don't know about that "magnetic filter?"?"?"
Boiling sound from the tranny???????? could it be the cats crackling when they cool down???
Did you check level after you put in the filter??? Drain and re-fill pan and change filter????
Where did you mount the Tranny cooler??? If ya mounted BEHIND the radiator, you defeated purpose. Tranny coolers need to be run inline downstream from in-tank cooler on return side. The physical cooler should be out in front of the radiator and a/c/ condenser.
Rule of thumb for automatics I've followed for 20 years.
No towing or off road.....change fluid and filter every two years or 30,000 miles.
Towing or off road every year or 12,000.
$10.00 filter/gasket and 1/2 dozen qts of ATF a year is one hell of a lot cheaper than $1800. for tranny overhaul. Plus you can get an idea how your clutch packs are doing.
Just pulled the pan on wife's '95 Astro the other day. 65,000 miles (5th change since new) No clutch material, very slight coating of metal filings on magnet in pan. No change from the other 4 changes. Pull a 19 ft boat constantly with it.
anyone else got any ideas......
