Question Electrical Problem

I have a 1997 2whl drive Eddie Bauer. Passenger fog light and drivers headlight are out. Fog lite was burnt and melted. Drivers Foglight ok, Drivers Headlight has No Voltage on low Beam side but High Beam side OK . Passenger headlight OK high and low beam! Passenger Foglight Melted!! I replaced all Headlights and Fog Lites ( time anywat 100miles) but when turned headlites on passenger Foglight Bulb melted again and still no low beam on drives headlight or power to low beam side of plug.... Never ran accross this before... has anyone any info on this issue.. manuals do not cover this... Iny info would be appreciated..

The Owner's Guide for my '04 shows a 10A fuse for the left low beam (#43 but I doubt it's the same # on your '97).

I sure wouldn't replace another foglight bulb until you figure out why the other two melted. Check the plug for arcing.

Sounds like the blown fog light is the cause of your problems.

Fuse #8 (10A mini) on your interior fuse panel should be the fuse for those. It is also the fuse for the RH low beam as well. Your left low beam should be on fuse #4 (10A mini) and both the high beams on fuse #33 (15A mini).

All three of these are fed by the fuse #4 (20A maxi) in the power distribution box, but as at least one of the bulbs is lighting then that one is OK.

I would figure out what went wrong with the wiring to the fog lamps before replacing the fuses (in case you have exposed wires) as you mention that something down there got melted. Something else is not quite right (if I am reading this wiring diagram right) if the left hand side is out with the fogs as they should not be interconnected. It could be that something changed after they printed this one (as it does say "preliminary" on the cover) but I have found it to be accurate for my 1997 Mountaineer.

Question Me Tooooo Maybe LOM?

Interesting! I have a 97 Eddie as well and have the exact same issue! I have researched the headlight issue to the LOM (lamp out module) under the center console I am told. But.... I cannot find out why the Passenger Fog Light is involved and Melts Bulb??????....

5.4,
You may be on to something there. My wiring diagram does not show the LOM module as an option (as it is actually for a 97 Mountaineer and it did not seem to have one, best I can tell) so that is likely where the differences in the wiring are. Maybe someone with some experience with the LOM will be able to assist.

Good luck,
-JJB
