I have a stock 2002 Ford Explorer V6 with about 39,370 on it and in the last few weeks I've noticed that it has been acting up. Just about 15 minutes ago, while on the expressway (already up with traffic 65 MPH) I started to slow down and GENTLY started to accelerate. The RPMs climbed to 2 and speed went to 70 but stayed at it even though I was still giving her gas. Not only that but while the gauges were stuck, the engine was a little louder (not from accelerating but just not sounding the way it should idling or under load.) I don't know what it is but as soon as I let off the gas everything starts working again as it should. So I accelerate again and everything is fine. The vehicle also doesn't seem to be shifting when it should as well as a harder shift. I don't know what it is but its only been like this for a few weeks.
Thanks,

Douglas DC-9,
I think the first thing I would do is drop your tranny pan ( with a new gasket and filter in hand) and find out what you have. Things to look for: Color of fluid, fluid smell,
quanity of mud in the bottom of the pan. If all looks good, put it back together with new filter and gasket and perform a flush on it. If I had problems after that I would get it tested.
