ha2400, although I do prefer the 390 any way you do your truck it will be great. I have a 390 with a 428 crank in my 67 Mustang and love it. I have never had a 400 so can`t comment on it. I would consider a 429/460 as there is no replacement for displacement but one has to use what one has/wants. The 302 that I have in my 69 is a great little motor. Ford motors are good, just depends if power or fuel economy is wanted as to what motor to use.
I've started prepping the truck for sand blasting, discovered a lot of sheet metal work. the floorboards need replacing as well as the radiator support and pass. side fender. also has anyone relocated the shifter from column to floor? I'm also working up a custom carbon fiber dash as well.Any one in NC got some weekend time to kill? lol
I'll be posting pics of the progress soon.

That seems familar, just went thru all that with my truck that looked good untill we got into it. It had some rust in the floor where someone had put a big sheet metal patch with pop rivets and tar! It had a little more rust in the cab corners and bondo, all in all it was not that bad for a 56 but it was about 200 hours to properly cut out the rust and sandblast the complete cab with all the patch panels being butt welded. Still have to finish the frame that has a front clip from an 80 Mercury car and 75 F150 rear springs with a 9 inch Ford rear end and get it painted. It has been sandblasted and will get acid based primer before the top coat of paint. Hopefully in the next year or two (3-4 ?) it will be back on the road again. After that is done then my 69 F100 gets the same deal.
A FE powered bump side truck at 150 mph, lets think. You would need around 450 HP at the rear tires. You must build motors alot stronger than me and I'm close to 500 pounds torque on a 410. Running at 20,000 feet were the airs thinner, maybe a blower with 18 pounds boost?

i don't expect 150 mph due to aerodynamics but 105 might be doable lol, also its a styleside not stepside. I've got a lot of sheetmetal to do but the end will be worth it
ha2400,
my old 69 Flairside F250 360 4 speed 4.10 rear did 114 weekly and had 434K miles on her (390 High compression cam, 4 barrel, headers), no big with a 390.
