Question What do I really weight?

2002 F-150, 5.4, Super cab, 6500# GVWR pack, P265/70R17 chrome steel, rest is stock. The specs say it weighs 4,744 lbs. Went to a local truck scale that read 5,640 lbs. Had 1/4 tank of fuel, no passengers or cargo.

So, is it possible that this rig weighs that much more than the specs say or was the local scale wrong?

The specs are dry weight. No fluids. Add in the fluids, steel wheels, and such, and the weight is probably right. I would try another scale though. My 77 F150 2wd with a 460 and 1/4 tank of gas weighs 4480# empty.

If the scales you was at are certified scales then it is accurate. Here in Michigan they are checked every few years by the state. My 04( in signature) weighted in at 7840.

My 03 Super Cab 7700 4x4 weighs in at about 5700lbs. I do have a toolbox with about 250 lbs in it. I think I had approx 1/4 tank of gas when it was weighed. My truck would weigh a little more than yours since mine is a 7700, so it sounds as though you should check another scale as your weight of 5640 sounds a little high.

My 01 f150 supercab with towing package weighs in at 5300 empty. This was on the recycler's scale.

I have a 2001 F150 supercab 2WD 4.6., w/tow pac.

In trying to determine what my actual payload was, I had it weighed at a certified scale, and had the same experience as you. I forget the exact numbers, but by subtracting from the GVWR, I was left with about an 1100 lb. payload, when I thought it was about 1600!

Since these scales usually weigh rigs that are about 10 times heavier than our pickups, the thought occurs that they may not be too accurate at this very low end of their capacity, but everyone says that they are. If so, then the published curb weights are totally unrealistic.

Personally, I have to put 1500 lbs in occasionally, and I've done so without problems for 3 years.

I don't know how much I'd trust the specs or not. I just drained and refilled the coolant in my truck and the specs said it held 19.4 qts of coolant/water. Well, I went to filling her up and she held a lot less. I ended up having to drain some of the coolant just to add water. Anyways, off topic, but it had to do with specs.

I think the specs for some things like oils may be correct the very first time any fluid is added to the truck. And then some stays in the system when you go to refill next time. But it shouldnt be too much..
