'93 Explorer Temp. gauge problems???
Hi all. I have a '93 Explorer w/ 179K miles. The temp. gauge has recently developed a mind of it's own. A few days ago, I changed a heater hose and the upper radiator hose. After that, the temp. gauge started going up and down... the truck's not overheating, the needle just goes up and down between the cold line (in the normal range) and just above the "L" in NORMAL. It takes about 15 seconds for each cycle, with about 5 seconds in between. My first thought was air in the system, but I haven't been able to bleed any out. Next, I was convinced it was the thermostat. I've now changed it twice, with no change. During this, I found the cap to be leaking a tiny bit, so that's been replaced. Then I changed the coolant temp switch and the temp. sensor. The fan clutch is engaging, and the coolant appears to be circulating. I'm hoping someone here will have a suggestion. I 'm having to drive back and forth to Savannah to take care of my mother, and I have to leave again on Wednesday. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
