i agree with almost everything mentioned. i mean people want a caruck (a car/ truck) i mean i am all for a good ride and i think independant front suspension if i read that right. looks like they are following gm with their own little idea of a truck with a trunk. it was made for exactly what is going to be done with it. light hauling of jet skys and a few snowmobiles and maybe an atv. it wasn't made for a contractor. it was made for a soccar mom or a city dad that wants to haul a small riding lawnmower etc. not for big 5th wheels. they have their place and are finding it quick.
I think the vehicle will suit its target market quite well. It's not for me (or most people on this site probably) but those who want a swiss-army knife jack-of-all trades vehicle (and a master of none) will almost certainly gravitate towards this new Honda. Its buyers will not be the traditional, brand-loyal, couldn't care less about economy truck buyer. To many (most?) of these people Honda is a superior brand name than Ford/Chevy/Dodge anyway. You know, the whole image about superior Japanese quality that came about because the big three American manufacturers made godawful junk 20-30 years ago. Domestic automakers still have not fully recovered from that self-inflicted damage.
Personally I think we should be sad that Honda is not introducing a heavy-duty pickup into the market. Competition from a company like Honda that has a legendary reputation for quality would definitely get everyone's attention and force the current players to make their products that much better. In our economic system more competition among suppliers enables buyers (us) to exert greater influence on them.
Full size or no size. Id rather drive a old chevy with the glass packs rusted in half than that thing. looks like something martha stewart designed in her free time.
It seems that people want a truck but dont want a truck. You see more and more of these sorry excuse for a truck. The ridgeline, ford's sport trac, subaru thing, avalanche, escolade, and titan crew cab and a 5 ft bed????? and more I am sure. I dont know what to make of all these things......they sell, that's for sure. Give the manufactures credit for finding a "new" truck market. They all can have their car ride with a bed in the back. I will stick with my Super Duty. I get a kick out of pulling next to these things at stop lights. There are times I catch the driver checking out my "real truck". I look over and snicker at his and more likely than not hers.
Oh well to each his own.
damn straight..if it aint got 8 feet it aint a truck
damn straight..if it aint got 8 feet it aint a truck
Hmmm...thats kinda funny....I can't think of a single vehicle made by ford that comes ONLY with an 8 foot bed. Is an F350, with the 6.0 PSD, and a 6.5 foot bed not a truck? That statement is rediculous.
What's wrong with a vehicle that's not a truck? What if you WANT a people hauler. Does EVERYONE need an F350? With an 8 foot bed? SHOULD everyone have one? Probably not. I think the ridgeline makes a lot of sense for many people. Maybe you should drop the caveman attidude. Me big! Me drive big truck! My truck BIGGER than your truck!!!
yeah right.
by the way, my uncle drives a '98 Freightliner. No, it doesn't have a pickup bed. Is this not a truck, too?
In Australia a F350 isn't even considered a truck (8' bed or not).
A truck is something that can haul as least 5 tonnes.
A F-Series is still considered what we call a "ute".
Which I suppose can be loosely described as a "Light duty general purpose vehicle with a tray, bed of some description".
I would get laughed at if I called my DRW 7.3l F350 a "truck" down at the local drinking establishment.
Let alone this Ridgeline.
I just can't believe that HONDA tries to call that a truck. Unfortunatly I think they will sell up in my neck of the woods too.... and with all the soccer moms up here I have a feeling we'll start seeing em on the road.
I agree with you on all that... Quesnel Honda is supposed to be getting one in a few months, i bet it will be laughed off the lot here. As you probably know jenral, 95% of the trucks out here (in quesnel) are 3/4ton or bigger
I like the looks. I have absolutely no clue about the powertrain or size .I also like the avalanche(at least the non-cladded version).get used to seeing "trucks" like this as we become more and more urban.
To tell you the truth, I kind of like it. Not for me of course, but for soccer mom's and whoever wants a car with a bed for the occasional load. Why would you not want you wife driving something that gets good MPG, is most likely going to hold up for a while, not have many problems, and that probably has really good crash ratings?
I'm surprised Honda hasn't come out with a fullsized yet. With Nissan and Toyota having fullsized trucks now, I have a feeling we're fixing to see something big from Honda. I would also like to see if Mazda comes out with a bigger truck than the clone of the Ranger.
Not nearly as ugly as the Avalanche. I suspect that it's a typical high quality Honda product that does exactly what it's designed to do, nothing more, nothing less. I have no doubt that it'd accomplish 90% of what I require in my day-to-day business.
I pushed my wife to buy a 2000 Honda Accord, it is the most reliable vehicle I have ever had to deal with. If Honda could build a pick-up truck as durable, good-looking, and well-priced as Ford, I would consider buying one. The main reason I will probabbly never buy a new Ford, is the way the two local SOB dealers treated me while I had contracts to service my trucks and cars with them. OK... I'll name them. First, and biggest jerks are McCafferty Ford, Langhorne PA. eat dirt Mr McCafferty, we buy our cars from Mike Piazza Honda (right across the street)now creep! Bill Marsh Ford..they just let me down. They couldn't fix any chronic smaller problems on my truck.
My Honda dealer, Mike Piazza, has the best service crew that I ever dealt with. Better than my Chevy, Ford, and my local mechanics. So, my point is... I'm still waiting for a Honda I can sit in without banging my head and knees.
I'll take an eight foot bed also, don't be "girlie-men" go big!
