Hey all!
I'm boppin' over from the Big Bronco forum cause I'm looking to get a pickup.
Had an F-150 Custom('88)before the Bronco, but I'm going back to owning a pick-up,and I have a few questions. From the years '00-04 it seems that there were quite a few changes in body style and suspension stuff.
I was looking at a few newer models today and I'm concerned with ground clearance.I do alot of offroading getting to fishing spots.Seems the control arms(?) sit very low compared to older models and my Bronc. Are there options? Is it different from year to year?I just don't like the idea of having those arms(brackets)sitting so low. What type of front end is this type?
Any info and/or input would be great.
Pics too!
If you are going to be doing alot of offroading I would suggest purchasing a F250 or F350 4x4 with skid plates. It all depends on what type offroading you are going to do?I found F250's with skid plates worked out OK for me.However, I never did any big rock climbing or anything like that.I also would highly recommend a limited slip rear axle.Good Luck!
Thanks for the reply Ruckus.
Mainly beach driving. And getting to the beach in spots is dicey. Not to bad though.Kinda like the smaller 150.Just concerned with clearance and such.
I'd like to run 33's on it.And maybe add a small (2-4")lift.
I've read somewhere else on this forum that 33's fit w/o a lift, but I'll bet there ain't much room left. A 4" lift should be just about right, heck, a 6" lift is really nice - from what I've seen, then you could run 35's (he he). Good luck.
Limited slip is definatly nessasary for mud and ice. You can buy an after market lift kit which will raise your ground clearance significantly. Skid plates protect from mud splashing on the engine, and it being damaged on rocks. F-250 or F-150 is fine in my opinion.
