When you do this type of filter modification, does the dealer have a problem with changing this. I think my dealer would give me trouble if they popped the hood and seen this. Don't get me wrong, I like it and am thinking about doing it to my truck, but I am still worried about the dealers take on it.
Yeh, I seen the earlier thread. Just didn't think everyone that did this modification was going to put it all back everytime they went back to the dealer. I have a K&N drop-in replacement filter and the dealer has not given me a problem with it, so I didn't know about this radical of one.
There might be a TSB on the leaking air box somewhere around. you could walk in with that, but I can't think of one around. maybe someone else will know. I dont deal with dealers, never have, prolly never will.
i ordered the 6637 today it will be here tommorow. cant wait to try this out, just one question, does the battery still stay put, or do i have to rig something up, i am asking cuase i havent looked at the air/battery box closely yet. so i figured i would ask you guys so i can be told if i need anything extra to buy
When I did my mod, I left the battery box in, and simply took out the box that held the old filter. It was two large pieces, if I remember correctly. The new filter fit snugly where the box used to be. I had to momentarily disconnect the battery to get the old box cover off, but it only took a few minutes to take everything out.
Hey Dan, What is the Zoodad mod anyways?? i couldn't find any picks of it in your gallery, just wonderin' thanks!!

Zoodad is the nickname of someone who did the mod and it was named after him. In a nutshell: On the Superduties there is a passage from the bottom of the air cleaner housing that leads up to the wall next to the radiator. But there is no hole in the wall to let cool outside air into the housing. The mod is: cut a hole in the wall to allow outside air access to the opening. Lot's of people put screens in front to stop the chunks and leaves from getting in. I have a chrome grill so I left the screen off.

I've noticed little leaves and stuff in my airbox before. I haven't done the Zoodad. Is this mod the only way stuff could get in there? I'm the second owner so maybe I better check if I have a hole or the mod. By the way, I pick up my new Wix cone filter (Napa 6637) kwik filter today. Can't wait to hear how it sounds.
well i did it, put on the quik filter today, but now i have a couple of questions. first, when you step on it the turbo winds up nicely, i actually think i have a litte more power now, but when you let off the gas (the turbo winds down of course) the turbo sounds as is someone disconnected an air hose, is this because the turbo isnt making anymore boost??? second when you are at a cruising speed and under light throttle or load the turbo kinda sounds scratchy(not all the time), but when you give it more gas to spool the thing up everything is normal. i sometimes hear the air hose sound when the truck shifts gear (auto) then it picks right up again. so i am just wondering if all this is normal sounds now that the intake/turbo has way more breathabilitly???and last, do any of you have any problem with any spray from the front tire getting at the bottom of the filter?? i must say i like the quik filter system, and it looks cool too.

That's funny, I just completed my install a couple of hours ago and just logged on to ask the exact questions. It must be normal eh.
sounds like turbo backlash, yea it happens on all diesels with big turbos. it's caused i believe because the turbo is till making lots of boost put isnt getting supplied with air at either end to maintain the rpms. The sound is that of the turbo fighting to move air. My uncle has a six speed with a 5" and filter mod and on that it sounds INCREDIBLE!!
haha, thats funny orezona, i guess it must be normal, i did mine this afternoon too, i think this will be a good investment, i sure like the look of the honkin filter. i thought i would hear the turbo scream a lot more with the window down, but i sounds pretty much the same except for the extra noises now. i am happy with it, i am gonna keep the old air box cause i still have warrenty left. happy cruisin'!!!
